In 1990, she made her stage debut with an Off Broadway production from The Big Funk written by John Patrick Shanley. In the following year she was chosen for her first TV role in The Perfect Tribute. Her breakthrough in her professional career happened in the year 1992, when she was a character in the film Basic Instinct. It was in the movie The Firm however that she was cast as the female lead for the first time. She was cast in the film alongside actors like Tom Cruise and Gene Hackman.
